The 'adventure through time' is not a new concept, but the author chose an uncommon time period to visit, so I wanted to reflect the era while bringing in only very small elements of the modern and then I created a layout that positions the protangonist centrally as the main focus, with the heroine and a villain on either side but much smaller.

For this sequel, the heroine stands on a much more equal footing with the hero story-wise, so on this cover they share the focus.

When I came to work on the third part of the series, I realised that I had created designs with the number of 'focus' characters increasing with the book number. Therefore, I decided to go for three characters for this title, and illustrate an character who I knew would be intersting visually and (conveniently) has a much larger role on this book.

The Egyption design elements were an obvious choice here, but I knew I wanted to keep the atmosphere 'thick', really dusty and mysterious, similar to the scene in the map room in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I also integrated the title with the image so that they actully interact with each other from a design and lighting point of view
