The basic idea of this design was very much influenced by films such as Das Boot and U-571. I wanted, with very little imagery, to create the impression of submarines as claustrophobic and airless. The deep sunset was used to create a very 'classic' wartime matinee-type feel.

This book was all about beautiful, fast cars and bikes in a modern London crime story. Car chases were very much the order of the day, and a lot of attention was paid to overblown, dramatic lighting. I think of this as my 'Michael Bay movie' of covers.

While this cover has a very similar wartime ambiance to Steel Coffin, In this case I was more interested in doing something reminiscent of the cover of a boys' own-type comic annual.

As this book centred on a more up-to-date theatre of war, my aim was to focus on the modern military hardware, highlighted by the flames and the desert to generate a really palpable sense of heat on metal.

The idea of the 'table of memories' helps to highlight the story structure of an adventure told in flashbacks.
